Are
you ready to add a spin to your Thursday nights? Instead of
just going out, go out and play. All you need to do is grab
some of your friends, come up with a team name, and have some
drinks at your favorite bar while competing in a trivia game.
This is exactly what I did one Thursday at Liquid Cellar.
This comedy trivia game is hosted by the always entertaining
Curtis Earth, who acknowledges that he is "God's best
kept secret".
Curtis,
who is originally from New York, came up with this unique
idea when he was a DJ during a not-so-happy Happy Hour at
a Holiday Inn in Pennsylvania. After mixing some trivia with
the music, he noticed that bar attendance skyrocketed from
18-20 regulars to an overwhelming 150 people in one month's
time. With this, an idea was born. After successfully franchising
his show up north, Curtis brought his show to Florida. After
2 months of struggling to prove that his show is worthwhile,
he finally found work. Currently, the comedy trivia show plays
at several bars around Orlando, including Devaney's, Loaded
Hog, and Liquid Cellar.
So
what might one expect from a Curtis Earth trivia show? After
several rounds of challenging trivia questions covering history,
geography, nature, and even spelling, teams rack up points
proving their ability to retain useless information. If any
questions arise concerning the validity of answers, Mr. Shifferstein,
the omniscient monkey, will clear up any confusion. No worries,
though, even the losing team may have a chance to win a prize
in the gift raffle. The wacky raffle contains prizes that
Curtis "guarantee[s] that you don't own at home, but
will if you win". Unfortunately, I walked away without
a walkman (headphones optional), an edible cock ring, a jewelry
cleaning kit, or any Motion Lotion in Orange and Big Banana.
Of course, had I been able to beat Roy Old Boy, who have successfully
won the trivia game five weeks in a row, I would have received
a $20 gift certificate. Those steadfast trivia buffs, who
claim that Curtis' show offers a more personal atmosphere,
haven't missed a Thursday in over 6 months and say their motto
is "Always in First Place". I believe them and challenge
anyone who knows who the last president on the all silver
half-dollar was, to come out and test their skills.
For
a complete schedule of show times, dates, and locations, check
out Curtis' website at CurtisEarthTrivia.com. While there,
peruse the website and learn about the history of Curtis Earth
and Mr. Shifferstein, play an interactive quiz, or just make
fun of people in the photo gallery.
